Brigadier General Urges Support for Breast Cancer Patients Among Military Personnel

TAMALE: The General Officer Commanding Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, has called on military personnel to actively support friends and family members diagnosed with breast cancer, highlighting the detrimental effects of stigma on survivors' health outcomes. He stressed the importance of empathy and community involvement in aiding recovery during a breast cancer awareness event held for the Six Garrison of the Ghana Army. According to Ghana News Agency, Brig. Gen. Tei emphasized the suffering caused by breast cancer to individuals, families, and communities and pointed out that stigma negatively impacts survivors' health. He advocated for increased social support, noting that it helps patients better manage the disease. Brig. Gen. Tei also highlighted the importance of proactive health measures, urging uniformed personnel to prioritize early testing and timely intervention in combating breast cancer. The event, themed 'Screen Early, Live Longer, Join the Fight,' featured a health walk, educational talks, and breast screenings to promote awareness and encourage early detection among participants. Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent cancers and the second leading cause of cancer deaths globally, particularly affecting females. The prevalence of the disease underscores the urgent need for awareness, early detection, and effective treatment strategies.
