Accra: Major General William Agyapong, Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), on Monday convened a meeting of all Two-Star Generals in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at his Burma Camp office.
According to Ghana News Agency, Major General Agyapong expressed appreciation for their professionalism and dedication to the country, as stated in a press release issued by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quarshie, Director General of Public Relations at GAF. He extended gratitude from the President and Commander-in-Chief, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the Ghana Armed Forces.
The press release mentioned that to aid command and control, many of the Generals present were set to be honourably released from service in line with GAF regulations. Major General Irvine Aryeetey, Commandant of the National College of Defence Studies, assured that the change in Military High Command Structure was consistent with GAF history, as new intakes traditionally succeeded their predecessors.
He cited the transitions from former CDS Lieutenant General Obed B. Akwa to Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, spanning five intakes (Intake 18 and 23), and from Vice Admiral Amoama to General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, spanning three intakes (Intakes 23 and 26). Maj. Gen. Aryeetey explained that the latest shift, from Gen. Oppong-Peprah to Major General W. Agyapong, spanning four intakes, aligned with military tradition.
He expressed gratitude for the invitation, describing it as a novel experience. The CDS thanked the Generals for attending the meeting and wished them well in their future endeavours. Service Chiefs and the Chief of Staff, General Headquarters, were also present at the meeting.
