CAPE COAST: Thousands of residents in the Cape Coast Metropolis and nearby districts received medical assistance, including screenings, treatments, and surgeries, through an outreach initiative organized by the Charismatic Evangelistic Ministries (CEM). This large-scale effort offered comprehensive healthcare services and essential items to the community as part of a five-day crusade. According to Ghana News Agency, the outreach, held at Adisadel College Park, transformed the area into a temporary polyclinic. Various units such as a pharmacy, physiotherapy, eye clinic, dental clinic, and Ear, Nose, and Throat units were set up to address the medical needs of attendees. A notable aspect of the outreach was the deworming of children, along with the distribution of over 10,000 sets of stationery, cups, plates, footwear, and clothing. In collaboration with the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital, a team of specialist doctors, led by Dr. Opoku Ampomah, CEO of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, performed surgeries for over 100 individuals suffering from conditions like fibroids, hernia, and goiter. The medical intervention was an integral part of CEM's initiative aimed at providing holistic support to the community, including the distribution of food, mattresses, and clothing earlier in the week. Rev. Steve Mensah, Founding Bishop of CEM, emphasized the importance of combining medical interventions with spiritual care, stating, "I believe that miracles, like medical interventions, are the interventions of God and so screening and treatment are very important." The outreach was also accompanied by prayers and counseling for those in need. Dr. Kezia Malm, part of the CEM medical team, reported that many cases involved fungal, skin, urinary tract, and respiratory infections. The outreach provided immediate, free medication for diagnosed conditions, eliminating the need for additional pharmacy visits. Eye care services also addressed refractive errors and other ocular issues, supplying necessary corrective glasses. Dr. Ampomah n oted that approximately 108 surgical procedures, including plastic surgeries, had been performed, with patients recovering well. He highlighted the prevalence of hernias, particularly among manual laborers, and the importance of timely treatment to prevent life-threatening complications. The collaboration with the Metropolitan Hospital was seen as an opportunity for mentorship and strengthening medical partnerships. Dr. Eric Fenin Appiah, working on fibroid cases, shared details of complex surgeries, including the removal of large fibroid nodules, some weighing as much as 5.2 kilograms. Successful patient recoveries marked the event, with ongoing discharges for those who have undergone surgery. Local leader Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II expressed his gratitude for the initiative, hoping it could extend beyond Cape Coast to benefit other regions. Beneficiaries like Madam Cecilia Mintah and Madam Elizabeth Warden voiced appreciation for the care received, highlighting improved conditions following their treatments .
