Ofuman: The chiefs and people of Ofuman, a farming community in the Techiman North District of the Bono East Region, have made a formal appeal to the government for the construction of a standard market. This initiative is aimed at boosting socio-economic growth and development in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the community expressed concerns about post-harvest losses of perishable crops. They believe that with a modern market, farmers would be able to efficiently harvest and sell their crops on time. Nana Asamoah Kesseh, the Kontrihene of the Ofuman Traditional Area, highlighted these concerns during a visit by Mr. Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister.
Nana Kesseh explained that the existing market does not provide adequate space for traders and suffers from poor infrastructure. He also noted that the area's roads are in poor condition, hindering farmers' ability to transport their crops to market centers. Additionally, he called for the construction of nurses' quarters and solutions to the acute water shortage.
The Regional Minister, Mr. Antwi, assured the community that their issues would be addressed. He pledged to construct more boreholes and a six-unit classroom block for the local basic school. Plans are also underway to build a three-unit classroom block for the kindergarten school. Mr. Antwi committed to deploying more police officers to enhance security and urged the public to respect the law.
Mr. Antwi also inspected the ongoing construction of the Agenda 111 District Hospital, which is about 75 percent complete. He affirmed the government's commitment to completing and handing over the project to improve local healthcare. Additionally, Mr. Antwi met with the two traditional councils in the district, emphasizing his dedication to engaging with local leaders in the region's development process.
