Bolgatanga: The Church of Pentecost has commissioned a 35-bed hospital in Bolgatanga, aimed at providing accessible healthcare services to residents of the Upper East Region and surrounding communities. The new facility is equipped with advanced medical technologies and includes essential amenities such as an emergency unit, consulting rooms, and a diagnostic laboratory.
According to Ghana News Agency, the facility, named Pentecost Hospital – Bolgatanga, is part of the Church’s broader social intervention programme under the ‘Possessing the Nations’ agenda, launched in 2018. This initiative seeks to transform society through principles and values of God, focusing investments in sectors such as health, education, water and sanitation, and security.
Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, cited a tragic car accident in 2018 involving church members as the impetus for building the hospital. He highlighted the critical gaps in emergency healthcare that were exposed by the incident, which required victims to be referred to hospitals far from Bolgatanga, taking a toll on the affected individuals.
He praised the collaborative efforts of the Church’s departments and members in realizing the project. Currently, the Church runs 12 healthcare facilities, serving over 234,516 outpatients annually, with five additional health facilities under construction, including a Specialist Hospital in Accra.
Dr Peter Kwame Yeboah, Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), commended the Church for its contribution to healthcare delivery and its role in bridging inequalities between urban and rural areas. He noted that the new hospital aligns with Ghana’s goals for universal health coverage and primary healthcare.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Donatus Atanga Akamugri, referred to the hospital as ‘a vital health initiative,’ while Naba Yelzoya Kosom Asaga II, Paramount Chief of Nangodi, urged the facility’s management to maintain a high standard of professionalism and care.
