Accra: Delta Air Lines has announced a partnership with Breast Care International (BCI) aimed at advancing breast cancer care in Ghana through fundraising and awareness initiatives. This collaboration comes in response to an alarming increase in breast cancer-related deaths in the country. According to Ghana News Agency, Delta Air Lines has been actively involved in BCI's fundraising efforts, including participating in a fundraising event in Accra and attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Comprehensive Cancer Centre of Excellence in Kwaso, Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region. On a global scale, Delta has invested over $20 million in the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which has funded more than 80 research projects. The partnership extends to awareness creation initiatives, as evidenced by Delta's involvement in the 'Walk for the Cure' event in Ejisu. This event is part of a broader effort to dispel myths about breast cancer and promote the importance of early detection and treatmen t. Thousands of survivors, healthcare professionals, and advocates participated in this year's event, themed 'Together We Can Change the Narrative About Cancers in Africa.' Ralph Albus, Director of Global Communications at Delta Air Lines, emphasized the airline's commitment to community engagement, stating, "At Delta, our eight-year partnership with BCI underscores our deep connection to this cause. She noted an increase in breast cancer-related deaths, rising from 1,800 out of 4,000 cases annually before 2020 to 2,396 out of 5,000 cases annually since 2020.
