Odumase-krobo: The Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court has sentenced a 27-year-old driver, Nartey Tetteh Adjei, to five years in prison for attacking a farmer with a cutlass. The incident occurred during a dispute over a stray piglet in Kpongunor, a suburb of Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector John Brahene, stated that the incident took place on August 9, 2025, at around 5:00 p.m. The complainant, Mr. Emmanuel Ofoe, an animal farmer, discovered that one of his piglets had escaped and was feeding behind Adjei's house. When Ofoe attempted to retrieve the piglet, he witnessed Adjei throwing a stone at it, causing injury.
Inspector Brahene noted that Ofoe confronted Adjei, who initially apologized and promised to resolve the issue but later failed to do so. When Ofoe visited Adjei again to discuss the piglet's worsening condition, Adjei became agitated, retrieved a cutlass, and inflicted deep wounds on Ofoe's head and left arm.
The victim managed to escape and, with the assistance of his sister, reported the incident to the police. Ofoe was issued a medical form, received initial treatment at a local hospital, and was later referred to the Regional Hospital for further care. Inspector Brahene added that Adjei was arrested and admitted to the offence during police interrogation.
Adjei was charged with Causing Harm, contrary to Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and was convicted to serve as a deterrent to others. The police have since cautioned the public to resolve disputes through lawful means to prevent violence.
