Accra: Mr Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the Minister of Transport, has officially inaugurated the new boards of the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA) and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), urging them to work diligently to enhance road safety compliance and reduce road fatalities. The minister emphasized that the indiscipline and disregard for road traffic regulations by some drivers are significant contributors to road accidents and fatalities in the country.
According to Ghana News Agency, during the inauguration ceremony held in Accra, Mr. Nikpe called on the board members to take decisive actions to address these challenges. He highlighted the urgency of the situation by pointing out that the provisional figures for the first half of the year are alarming, and without swift intervention, the situation could deteriorate further. The minister stressed the importance of the boards’ wise counsel to ensure that the authorities are well-equipped financially and technically to tackle this critical issue.
Mr. Nikpe urged the board members to collaborate closely with management to help reduce road fatalities. The DVLA Board is chaired by Mr. George Spencer Quaye, and its members include Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, Chief Executive Officer of DVLA, Mr. Eric Tetteh-Addison, Mr. Abraham Amaliba, Director-General of NRSA, Ms. Mary Affanyi, and Colonel Faustina Dennison. The board also comprises Mr. Robinson Kwasi Martey, Mr. Kwassem M. Odaymat, Dr. Abiba Zakariah, Mr. Ali Wahab, Ms. Theresa Potakey, and Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Netkuni.
