Accra: The President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Justice Ricardo Claúdio Monteiro Gonçalves, along with Vice-President Justice Sengu Mohamed Koroma, recently visited the Office of the ECOWAS Auditor General. This visit signifies an effort to foster collaboration between the two entities to promote transparency and good governance within the West African regional body. According to Ghana News Agency, the meeting was marked by a spirit of cooperation, with João Alage Mamadu Fadia, the Auditor General of ECOWAS Institutions, welcoming the visit as a symbolic gesture. He praised the court's new leadership for its willingness to engage closely with his office. Fadia emphasized the extensive mission of ECOWAS, highlighting the responsibility of serving 15 member states and over 400 million citizens. He pointed out that the audit function is not merely about control but also involves advising institutions to adhere to best governance practices. Fadia further clarified that the role of the audit office is not t o act as a policing entity but to ensure compliance with administrative and financial standards. He underscored the importance of collaboration with the Court of Justice to enhance transparency in managing public affairs. Justice Ricardo Gonçalves reiterated his commitment to working alongside the Auditor General's office throughout his mandate. He acknowledged the crucial role audits play in refining internal processes and expressed his readiness to follow the office's recommendations for ensuring sound and transparent management of the court. Accompanied by Chief Registrar Dr. Yaouza Ouro-Sama, Justice Gonçalves emphasized the need for rigorous management of the court's judicial and administrative functions. He identified cooperation with the Auditor General's office as a critical component in achieving high standards of governance and accountability. The Auditor General, joined by his team, including the Director of Operational Audit and the Director of Performance Audit, assured their support for the c ourt. He affirmed that his office would remain available to provide technical and advisory assistance throughout his mandate.
