EU High Representative Reaffirms “Immense Value” of Strategic Partnership With Morocco

Luxembourg: The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, emphasized the significant importance of the EU's strategic partnership with Morocco, describing it as "long-range, long-term, very dense, and in-depth." This statement was made following the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting which concluded with unanimous support for strengthening ties with Morocco. According to Ghana News Agency, the partnership's reinforcement was highlighted during a press conference where Borrell detailed the Council's commitment to "consolidating" and "defending" the partnership across various sectors. He also indicated imminent positive developments in the partnership, closely following the European Court of Justice's rulings on the EU-Morocco fisheries and agriculture agreements. Borrell reiterated the EU's intention to continue enhancing this multifaceted cooperation in line with the principle of "pacta sunt servanda," as previously affirmed in a joint statement with Euro pean Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen. The reaffirmation comes in the wake of Algeria's move to summon the ambassadors of 12 countries supporting Morocco, marking a clear stance by the EU against perceived pressures from Algeria. The EU's unified response underscores its strategic interest in preserving and strengthening its relationship with Morocco, signaling a robust political message against any attempts by external parties to influence EU's internal affairs and its partnerships.
