ACCRA: The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a warning to the public, urging them to refrain from engaging in or supporting the packaging of water contaminated by galamsey or other unsafe sources, citing significant threats to public health and safety. According to Ghana News Agency, the FDA released a statement following a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows women selling contaminated sachet water labeled as 'Galamsey Water.' The FDA emphasized that such practices could not be tolerated as they undermine public health and expose the population to serious health risks. The statement highlighted that licensed manufacturing facilities for sachet water are not legally permitted to produce any other products, as doing so violates the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851) and poses a risk to consumer safety. The FDA is working closely with security agencies to identify and apprehend those involved in these illegal activities. The FDA assured the public that it would not tolerate practices endangering public health and safety and would continue to monitor and enforce compliance to protect the lives of Ghanaians. The statement made it clear that individuals and entities involved in the packaging and distribution of galamsey water, or any other unwholesome water, would face strict sanctions.
