FirstBank Ghana Joins Global Cybersecurity Awareness Month Initiative

ACCRA: FirstBank Ghana has announced its participation in the 2024 Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a global initiative aimed at enhancing the security of digital ecosystems within the financial sector. This initiative, which features the theme "Secure Our World," seeks to underscore the collective responsibility involved in safeguarding digital infrastructure against mounting cyber threats. According to Ghana News Agency, FirstBank Ghana is set to implement a series of initiatives throughout the month to raise awareness among its staff, customers, and partners. These efforts will include interactive training sessions, real-world simulations, and practical advice on strengthening defenses against cyberattacks. A focus of the campaign will be on promoting best practices for cyber hygiene, such as strong password policies, multifactor authentication, identifying phishing emails, and ensuring regular software updates. During a webinar on the topic "Secure Our World: Misinformation and Disinformation," Victor Yaw Asante, Managing Director and CEO of FirstBank Ghana, highlighted the importance of cybersecurity, emphasizing the potential risks posed by cyber threats to financial systems and customer assets. Mrs. Audrey Mnisi Mireku of the Ghana Association of Banks echoed these concerns, stressing the need for collective vigilance and proactive measures within the financial sector. Dr. Harrison Nnaji, Group Chief Information Security Officer at FirstBank, addressed the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks, underlining the necessity for constant innovation in security strategies. Mr. Prince Adu, a consultant at Innovare, emphasized ongoing education in cybersecurity as a vital component of risk mitigation. Throughout October, FirstBank Ghana will engage its employees with hands-on training and real-time scenarios to better prepare them to identify and address cyber risks. The initiative serves as a reminder of the critical role that every individual within an organization plays in maintaining cybersecurity. Mr. Ikemefula Nwagwu, Executive Director and Chief Risk Officer of FirstBank Ghana, reinforced the importance of staying informed and cyber smart to outsmart emerging threats.
