KUMASI: The Ashanti Regional chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women's Association of Ghana (FOMWAG) has successfully concluded a three-day mentorship camp aimed at equipping senior high school and tertiary students with essential leadership skills and fostering active citizenship. The initiative seeks to promote personal growth among the youth while encouraging them to contribute to community development. According to Ghana News Agency, the mentorship camp, themed 'Empowering Tomorrow's Leader: Active Citizenship and Personal Growth,' was organized by FOMWAG Ashanti in partnership with Star Ghana Foundation, with financial backing from the Hewlett Foundation. Participants were chosen based on essays that identified social challenges within their communities, offering solutions that could be implemented with the assistance of friends and family. During the camp, resource persons provided mentorship on leadership skills necessary for addressing the social challenges highlighted by the students. The progra m's objective was to instill a sense of active citizenship among participants, urging them to take on leadership roles in their communities. Ms. Sharifa Abdul-Rahman, Project Lead for the Mentorship Camp, emphasized the importance of empowering students to contribute positively to their communities after completing their education. The camp also encouraged networking and idea-sharing among participants, providing them access to experts and accomplished personalities who shared insights into personal and community development. Ms. Abdul-Rahman noted the leadership traits exhibited by participants during discussions, expressing optimism that they would apply these skills in their respective communities. Participants praised FOMWAG Ashanti and Star Ghana Foundation for enhancing their leadership abilities. They expressed increased confidence and a commitment to addressing community challenges, reflecting the program's impact.
