Kadjebi: Mr. Eric Marc Fuachie, the Forest Range Manager of the Kadjebi/Asato Forest Range, has called on citizens, particularly students, to adopt tree planting as a hobby.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Fuachie emphasized the necessity of re-establishing vegetative cover lost to human activities, highlighting the impacts of deforestation driven by the demand for firewood, charcoal, and lumber.
Mr. Fuachie made these comments during the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE's) 2025 Citizenship Week celebration at Asato R. C JHS in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region. He underscored that afforestation efforts are crucial in combating climate change, restoring degraded lands, preserving water bodies, and enhancing agriculture. Planting trees, he stated, is vital for fostering a sustainable environment and improving the quality of life for both present and future generations.
In his role as a Resource Person, Mr. Fuachie encouraged students to become change agents, influencing their families and peers towards maintaining a clean environment. Ms. Janet Yaa Obido, an Assistant Civic Education Officer with the Kadjebi District Office of the NCCE, further explained that since 2012, the NCCE has utilized the Citizenship Week celebration to educate young Ghanaians on civic duties, national identity, and active citizenship. She highlighted the initiative's aim to enhance knowledge of the 1992 Constitution and civic values through mentorship and interactive learning.
Ms. Obido also mentioned that 42 basic schools in the Kadjebi District have been selected for this year's event, held under the theme: 'Ghana's Future: The Role of the Ghanaian Child'.
