Free TVET Program Empowers Ghanaian Youth with Skills and Opportunities

ABUAKWA: The free Senior High School (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) policy by the Ghanaian government is laying a robust groundwork for youth empowerment, enabling them to discover and hone their skills across various sectors. This initiative, according to Madam Shirley Tiwaa Kyei, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Atwima Nwabiagya South, is creating pathways for sustainable employment opportunities that will significantly benefit young people for years to come. According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Tiwaa Kyei emphasized the enduring value of the skills and knowledge acquired by the youth during a graduation ceremony in Abuakwa, where trained hairdressers, seamstresses, and tailors received start-up kits. The training program, supported by the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) in collaboration with the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly under the Master Card Foundation's Business in the Box project, equipped 154 graduates with essential tools such as ha ir dryers and sewing machines, alongside financial support to help them establish their businesses. Madam Tiwaa Kyei encouraged the youth to build self-confidence, maintain a clear vision, and continuously enhance their skills to grow and expand their enterprises. She also stressed the importance of cultivating a savings habit to develop a strong financial foundation for their businesses. In her appeal to the public, she urged a strong voter turnout to retain the NPP government, which she believes is pivotal in implementing policies that improve citizens' lives. Mrs. Kosi Yankey-Aryeh, Chief Executive of the GEA, noted in an address delivered on her behalf that the Business in the Box project has trained and set up approximately 109,471 youth, with women constituting 67 percent of the beneficiaries. Mr. Michael Amoah Awuku, the Municipal Chief Executive, highlighted the program's positive impact on school dropouts and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), urging the youth to uphold peace in the upcoming electio ns. Nana Yaw Akuoko, the Sepaasehene who chaired the event, lauded the initiative's organizers for fostering a hopeful future for society by nurturing young talent.
