Accra: Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA), an NGO, has paid tribute to the memory of the eight state officials including two Ministers of State, who perished in the August 6 helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, the tribute, signed by Alhaji Osman Abdel-Rahman, Executive Director of GDCA, extolled the virtues of the deceased, saying they gave their all in the service of the nation. It stated, "From GDCA, with hearts burdened by sorrow, we come together to honour the memory of eight gallant souls; two distinguished Ministers of State and six dedicated citizens, whose lives were cut short in a tragic helicopter crash that has shaken our nation to its core."
The tribute highlighted the contributions of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, who were among those who lost their lives. It emphasized their patriotism, intellectual strength, and commitment to service. Dr. Omane Boamah was remembered as a man of principle and integrity, whose leadership in national defense was marked by calm strength and strategic vision. He was known for standing shoulder to shoulder with service men and women, demonstrating his commitment to national security.
Alhaji Dr. Murtala Muhammed was celebrated as an icon of integrity and a staunch advocate for transparency and accountability. As Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, he was recognized for championing policies on environmental sustainability and scientific advancement, aiming for long-term prosperity and preservation.
The tribute further acknowledged the six other public servants who perished in the crash, recognizing their courage, professionalism, and dedication to their duties. Although their names may not be widely known, their sacrifice was deemed significant.
The statement also extended condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased, expressing collective grief and a commitment to honor their legacy. It called for unity, greater safety, and reverence for those who serve the nation.
