GFA and Malta Guinness Boost Women’s Football with Special Cash Awards

Accra: The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Malta Guinness, the headline sponsors of the Women's Premier League, have announced new cash incentives for the upcoming 2024/25 season. These awards aim to recognize the best talents in the league, including players and coaches, with significant cash prizes. According to Ghana News Agency, the Overall Best Coach and the Best Player from both the Southern and Northern Divisions will each receive GH?10,000 at the end of the season. This announcement comes as part of the ongoing efforts by the GFA and its sponsors to elevate the standard of women's football in Ghana. The partnership between the GFA and Malta Guinness began in 2022 and has since made considerable progress in promoting women's football across the country. Madam Dinah Asabea Darko, the Marketing Manager of Malta Guinness, expressed her satisfaction with the growth of the sport since their association began. "Our hope is in the commitment and passion of the women, because we know that with this, eve ry investment that we are making will be fruitful," she remarked during the season launch. In addition to the end-of-season awards, Malta Guinness has reintroduced monthly giveaways to further motivate and reward the hard work of players and coaches throughout the season. The Marketing Manager also took the opportunity to congratulate Hasaacas Ladies for winning the 2023/24 season. Dr. Gifty Oware-Mensah, a representative of Women's Football on the GFA Executive Council, highlighted the significant investments made in the development of women's football, supported by Malta Guinness. She revealed that the GFA had trained more women coaches than any other African country over the past three years, signifying a major push towards enriching the coaching landscape in women's football. Furthermore, Dr. Oware-Mensah announced that each of the 20 clubs participating in the league would receive 30 pairs of football boots, 30 footballs, and appearance fees, which vary slightly between GH?65,000 for Northern Zone clu bs and GH?60,000 for Southern Zone clubs. She also pledged continued support for referees and promised extensive media coverage for the upcoming season, which is set to commence on the weekend of October 18 to 21, 2024.
