Accra: Ghana and Liberia have pledged to deepen their 65-year relationship with Indonesia by strengthening bilateral ties in health, oil and gas, and development cooperation. This commitment was made during the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) in Bali, Indonesia, aimed at bolstering economic and diplomatic relations, and fostering mutual development between Africa and Indonesia. According to Ghana News Agency, the decision to enhance cooperation was announced following a meeting between Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Indonesian President Joko Widodo. The leaders discussed several collaborative initiatives, including partnerships between Indonesia's state-owned pharmaceutical company, Bio Farma, and Ghana's Atlantic Life Sciences to boost local vaccine production. President Widodo also proposed support for Ghana in establishing an oil refinery to meet the country's energy needs and offered Indonesia's aid in technical support, scholarships, and vocational training tailored to Ghana's requi rements. The forum, themed "Bandung Spirit for Africa's Agenda 2063," saw the participation of multiple African heads of state, including Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. President Boakai discussed new cooperation areas with President Widodo, focusing on palm oil and infrastructure development, marking a new chapter in nearly 60 years of Indonesia-Liberia relations. Indonesia expressed readiness to assist Liberia in overcoming agricultural challenges and to promote sustainable growth in both the agricultural and industrial sectors. A notable outcome from the forum was the discussion on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on food and drug supervision, aimed at further enhancing the pharmaceutical cooperation between Ghana and Indonesia. Additionally, a cooperation agreement was signed between Indonesian Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman and his Liberian counterpart, Alexander Nuetah, focusing on leveraging Indonesian technological advancements to improve Liberia's agricultural sector. Paskal A .B. Rois, Honorary Consul for the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana, emphasized the importance of the forum in leveraging Indonesian expertise in technology and education and encouraged African entrepreneurs to utilize these platforms to expand their businesses and explore new markets.
