ACCRA: Journalists at the Ghana News Agency (GNA) have been called upon to play a pivotal role in Ghana's post-COVID-19 recovery by producing content that champions social change and development. Mr. Justice Amankwah Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund (SIF), emphasized the importance of advocacy journalism in addressing the challenges faced by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and advocating for solutions. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Mensah delivered this message during the graduation ceremony of a five-day Trainer-of-Trainers programme in Accra, which saw participation from over 25 journalists from various regions. This training is part of the Post Covid-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Project (PSDPEP), funded by the African Development Bank through SIF, with execution by the Ministry of Finance and implementation by the Institute for Digital Marketing and Communication Ghana. The PSDPEP aims to support Ghana's sustainable recovery across mult iple sectors, including health, youth entrepreneurship, climate change, and gender, while also restoring livelihoods and employment opportunities. Spanning from 2022 to 2027, the project involves collaboration between SIF and various institutions, including the University of Ghana, GNA, and the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre. Mr. Mensah, who coordinates the PSDPEP nationally, expressed satisfaction with the progress made and highlighted the project's plans to allocate resources for digitalizing GNA's systems and rehabilitating its offices. He emphasized the importance of the training in enhancing GNA's capacity to produce impactful content on public health, MSMEs, gender, and climate change. Addressing the participants, Mr. Mensah urged them to apply their newly acquired skills in their work, emphasizing the need for change to begin with them. He assured the participants that their investment in this training would yield long-term benefits. Mr. Albert Kofi Owusu, General Manager of GNA, commended the participants and affirmed the agency's commitment to providing necessary resources for effective journalism. He expressed gratitude to the AfDB, SIF, IDMC Ghana, and other stakeholders for their support in making the training possible.
