Nsawam adoagyiri: Ms. Nora Asampana, the ICT Coordinator at the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Education Directorate, has emphasized the importance of girls being prudent about the personal information they share on social media platforms. During a speech at the International Girls Day event held at St. Martin’s Senior High School, she highlighted the risks associated with online exposure and the potential consequences of inappropriate social media posts.
According to Ghana News Agency, the advice was part of a broader discussion aimed at encouraging young girls to protect their privacy and integrity in the digital age. The event, organized by the Ezer Foundation, celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child and focused on empowering female students through education and awareness on various issues including online safety, health, and hygiene.
The gathering included students from St. Martin’s Senior High School and five nearby junior high schools: Adoagyiri Presby Basic School, Adoagyiri R/C JHS, Adoagyir
i Methodist Basic School, Al-Badar Islamic Basic School, and Al-Rajhi Islamic Basic School. As part of the Foundation’s commitment to supporting local education, 120 hand sanitizers and 30 liquid soaps were donated to these schools.
During her address, Ms. Asampana also warned about the dangers of cyberbullying and its potential to lead to online harassment, verbal abuse, and public shaming. She urged the students to report any such instances to their parents or school authorities to safeguard themselves against such threats.
In addition to online safety, the event also covered topics related to personal hygiene and reproductive health. Mrs. Grace Van-Ess, a Senior Nurse at Lister Hospital, advised the girls on maintaining hygiene and being wary of inappropriate advances, especially during their adolescent years.
Mr. Victor Armah Attoh, Director of Operations at Ezer Foundation, outlined the objectives of the commemoration, which centered on empowering the girls to pursue their dreams and build a foundatio
n for a responsible and fulfilling future. He stressed the importance of a holistic approach to child development, incorporating educational, medical, psychosocial, and spiritual dimensions.
