Accra: The Global Evangelical Church (GEC) has extended its deepest condolences to the Government and Ghanaians following the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of eight gallant servants of the land. A statement issued in Accra and signed by Rt. Rev. P.S. Dzomeku, Moderator of GEC, expressed sympathy, stating, "We mourn with the bereaved families and pray that the Holy Spirit will comfort them."
According to Ghana News Agency, the eight national officers were aboard the Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter when it tragically crashed in the Adansi-Akrofuom District. Among the deceased were two cabinet ministers: Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. The others included Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, a former Minister for Food and Agriculture and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
They were en route to Obuasi to participate in the formal launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme. This flagship initiative is aimed at combating illegal small-scale mining, commonly referred to as 'galamsey,' and promoting responsible, skill-based mining practices.
The government has declared a three-day period of national mourning effective August 7, 2025. During this time, public flower-laying ceremonies are taking place at the Jubilee House Ceremonial Garden to honor the memory of the deceased.
