Global Mayors Dialogue Focuses on Cultural and Tourism Cooperation in Qingdao

Qingdao: The Global Mayors Dialogue took place in the coastal Chinese city of Qingdao, where mayors from around the world gathered to discuss marine tourism development, revitalization of historic districts, and strengthening people-to-people ties.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event was themed 'Wonderful Culture and Tourism, Shared by Sister Cities.' Qingdao Mayor Ren Gang hosted mayors and representatives from cities including Minsk, Preah Sihanouk, Regensburg, Piraeus, Shimonoseki, Dunedin, Lagos, and Daegu. Vice mayors from Yantai and Weihai also participated.

During the dialogue, Ren Gang highlighted the achievements of Qingdao's partnerships with its sister cities and stressed the need to enhance exchange mechanisms for practical cooperation and diplomacy. This approach aims to strengthen international relations at the local level.

Ioannis Moralis, mayor of Piraeus, discussed the city's 'Sea Days' celebration and its focus on innovation, cooperation, and digital integration for sustainable development. Sok Phea, vice governor of Preah Sihanouk, emphasized the potential of cruise tourism and eco-island development in the province.

Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, mayor of Regensburg, spoke on integrating urban development to revitalize historic districts, citing Regensburg's blend of heritage and modern vibrancy. Kukharev Vladimir from Minsk emphasized cultural and tourism cooperation as a means to drive economic growth and promote peace.

Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin from Lagos expressed a willingness to collaborate on green economy innovation and sustainable cultural development. Park Gihwan from Daegu highlighted the city's Chimac Festival and expressed hopes for further cultural exchanges with Qingdao.

Shimazaki Toshiyuki from Shimonoseki focused on leveraging culinary traditions for tourism, while Sandy Graham from Dunedin highlighted cultural diversity through the Lan Yuan garden. The event concluded with a 'Global Invitation for Culture and Tourism,' encouraging further collaboration and prosperity in cultural and tourism development.
