Cape coast: The Central Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has committed to ensuring a fire-free and safe environment during the upcoming elections and Christmas season. In coordination with other security agencies, the Command aims to bolster Ghana's democratic processes and public safety. According to Ghana News Agency, Assistant Chief Fire Officer II (ACFOII) Merinda Mary Attigah-Mensah, the new Central Regional Fire Commander, has emphasized the collective responsibility of maintaining peace and safety during these critical periods. She cautioned against the spread of misinformation by social commentators, warning that legal consequences would follow any incitement of public unrest. ACFOII Attigah-Mensah addressed Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Fire Officers at her first regional meeting, focusing on strategic preparations for the upcoming events. She succeeded ACFO 1 John Amarlai Amartey, who was transferred to Accra. Highlighting the increased risk of fire outbreaks duri ng festive seasons, she assured that the Service is prepared to manage these challenges. Emphasizing proactive fire safety measures, Attigah-Mensah outlined plans to enhance community engagement and education to mitigate fire risks. 'Our aim is to empower communities with the knowledge to prevent fires, especially during the holiday season,' she stated. The GNFS will also conduct drills and simulations to ensure readiness in responding to emergencies. Collaborating with local authorities, the GNFS will inspect high-risk areas such as markets and crowded venues to identify potential fire hazards. Attigah-Mensah urged citizens to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines when handling fire. 'Our officers will be on high alert to respond to any incidents that may arise,' she affirmed.
