Government Prioritizes Youth Employment Through Skill Development Initiatives

KUMASI: The government has affirmed its commitment to empowering the youth by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to initiate and manage their own businesses. Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations Festis Awuah Kwofie emphasized the importance of youth-driven wealth creation during the inauguration of a career and migration fair in Kumasi. According to Ghana News Agency, the two-day event, organized in collaboration with the European Union (EU) and the German Cooperation for International Development (GIZ), aimed to help young Ghanaians discover employable and entrepreneurial skills. The initiative is designed to inspire interest in enterprise creation among the youth, who represent a significant portion of the population. Mr. Kwofie highlighted the government's resolve to provide both technical and financial resources to assist the youth in creating employment opportunities. He encouraged young people to leverage new educational policies focused on technical and vocational t raining to enhance their employability. Mr. Andreas Berding, Head of the Ghanaian European Centre for Jobs, Migration, and Development, announced plans to distribute 11,000 start-up support kits to young entrepreneurs nationwide. Furthermore, the initiative will connect some youth with approximately 60 organizations in Ghana and Europe to support and sustain their business ventures. Berding noted that these efforts aim to address the escalating youth unemployment rates, which have driven many to undertake dangerous journeys through the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea in pursuit of better opportunities in Europe. Mr. Anders Djur Feldt, Program Officer of the EU, reiterated the EU's collaboration with Ghana on migration issues, emphasizing the goal of creating educational opportunities for Ghanaian youth in Europe.
