Kassena-nankana west: Mr Stephen Aeke Akurugu, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Kassena-Nankana West, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Mahama-led government to continue funding existing educational interventions. He emphasized that programs like the School Feeding Programme and Capitation Grants would maintain financial support to enhance the quality of education both in the District and nationwide. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Akurugu made these remarks during an event at the Mother of Mercy Kindergarten (KG) and Primary cluster of schools, marking the 'My first day in school' ceremony. He encouraged pupils to persist in their studies despite current school conditions, assuring them of imminent improvements. The DCE, a professional Nurse, expressed his vision of seeing future professionals, including Nurses, Teachers, Directors, and even Presidents, among the students, urging them to focus on their studies and respect school authorities. The government, Mr Akurugu stated, is determined to al locate more resources to the education sector, ensuring that schools within the District benefit from these investments. He highlighted plans to expand the Ghana School Feeding Programme to include more schools, promising that the Assembly would facilitate this expansion to benefit additional students. During the visit, Mr Akurugu, accompanied by Mr Samuel Awiah, the Head Teacher, inspected a cemetery near the school. They proposed fencing the school to ensure pupil safety and called for a stakeholder meeting, involving community leaders and the Ghana Education Service (GES), to address land encroachment issues. Madam Mary-Magdalene Wompakea, the District Director of the GES, observed that pupils had rested adequately during the six-week break. She encouraged them to approach the new term with vigor and focus, urging them to concentrate on their studies, respect their teachers, and engage actively in class. The Head Teacher provided a brief history of the school, noting its establishment on September 16, 2 003, with an initial enrollment of 128 pupils. By July 2025, the school's population had grown to 556. During the DCE's visit, 13 new pupils were admitted to the KG, and 15 new students joined the Primary school. Following the event, Mr Akurugu and the GES Director distributed biscuits to the pupils as a gesture of welcome.
