Keta: Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has inaugurated a seven-member committee to investigate issues related to reclaimed land abuses at Adzido, Kedzi, Vodza, and Keta Central in the Municipality. This move comes after several allegations and accusations from the public against former government appointees and party members of sharing and selling the reclaimed land among themselves.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Gunu mentioned that the committee, chaired by Dr Joe Attipoe, a renowned lawyer, has been mandated to investigate the roles played by the Keta Municipal Assembly, stakeholders, and individuals in the land transactions and the building of structures. The committee has been given a one-month deadline to present their findings and recommendations to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council for further action. Mr Gunu emphasized the importance of supporting the committee to ensure a successful investigation.
The Regional Minister expressed concerns about the mismanagement of the reclaimed land and highlighted the need for responsible land use. He urged the Keta municipal assembly to utilize resources to protect and benefit the public and the nation. The committee's investigation, which commenced on May 13, is expected to conclude on June 13.
Mr Gunu stated that the committee, which includes experts in land management, law, and urban planning, will investigate the issues and provide their findings and recommendations within the stipulated timeframe. The recommendations are expected to be implemented without bias. The investigation aims to address concerns about the Keta reclaimed land and ensure responsible land use.
Dr Joe Attipoe assured the Regional Minister, the assembly, and the public that the committee would work diligently and present their findings within the given timeframe. Mr Wisdom Seade, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive, indicated that the Assembly's directives to halt all development projects and demand documents covering the possession of the reclaimed land are intended to facilitate a proper investigation.
He noted that May 14 is the deadline for all who have any portion of the land to submit their documents for redress before continuing any projects. He urged public collaboration with the committee to provide necessary information for a thorough investigation and appropriate recommendations.
The committee members include Mr Gilbert Kwabla Quashie, a Land Commissioner; Togbi Dallah Anini IV, an Educationist; Dr Stanislaus Yaw Adiaba, a Land Economist and Lecturer; Mr Wonder Japheth Sallah, a Surveyor; Ms Mary Agbemava, an Auditor; and Mr Wisdom Agbo.
