The Minister emphasized that the inauguration of the Ghana Circular Economy Centre of Excellence marks a significant milestone in the nation's journey towards sustainability, aligning with its environmental and economic aspirations. The initiative is seen as a commitment to developing a circular economy framework that is economically viable and environmentally responsible. The Circular Economy Action Plan, launched in March 2023, focuses on key economic sectors such as water, waste, plastics, food and agriculture, and the built environment. Under the new project, the University of Cape Coast will lead the plastics value chain and the Kwame Nkrumah University will oversee agriculture and agro-processing, while the textiles component will be managed by the OR Foundation, a sustainable fashion organization. Professor Ben Honyenugah, Vi ce Chancellor of Ho Technical University, expressed the institution's commitment to the project's success and its potential to position the University as a leader in circular economy practices. He indicated that the University would serve as a hub for practical education and innovation, enhancing sustainable global development. The University has designated its environment as a circular economy innovation zone and recently established a fabrication laboratory to support the project. The inauguration event included industry leaders and traditional leaders, with messages of support from Canadian partners and UNIDO, affirming the project's anticipated impact across the region.
