Tehran: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei announced that discussions with the United States remain active, facilitated by Pakistani mediation. 'They raised speculation about enrichment and uranium materials, and we announced that it has no basis,' Baqaei stated in remarks reported by the Mehr News Agency. 'The Americans presented proposals, and we also presented our views,' he added.
According to Anadolu Agency, Baqaei also addressed a proposed US-Bahraini resolution concerning the Strait of Hormuz. He asserted that the UN Security Council 'cannot accuse Iran of undermining the region's security.' He further noted, 'China and Russia know that the main source of insecurity at sea and against free trade is the United States. If the international community wants to take responsible action, it should condemn the actions of the United States.'
Meanwhile, a source close to the negotiations informed the Iranian news agency Tasnim that Tehran had submitted a revised 14-point text to Pakistani mediators for delivery to the US side. The source mentioned that Washington had recently responded to Iran's previous proposal, also delivered through Pakistani mediation.
According to the source, Iran's revised version introduced amendments 'in line with the established mechanism' for message exchanges between the two countries. The updated Iranian text emphasizes negotiations aimed at 'ending the war' and outlines 'confidence-building measures' expected from the US.
Regional tensions have heightened since February due to US and Israeli strikes against Iran. Tehran retaliated with strikes targeting Israel and US allies in the Gulf, alongside the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire, brokered by Pakistan, took effect on April 8, although subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to yield a lasting agreement. US President Donald Trump later extended the truce indefinitely.
