Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to Convene Security Meeting on Iran Amid Rising Tensions

Jerusalem: Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to convene a Security Cabinet meeting on Monday evening to discuss the ongoing situation with Iran, as reported by the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth. This meeting follows a previous session held by the Cabinet on Sunday evening, emphasizing the urgency and significance of the discussions surrounding Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting is taking place amidst the backdrop of potential renewed hostilities or the possibility of reaching an agreement between the United States and Iran. This comes after a period of heightened regional tensions following military actions. In February, the US and Israel launched strikes against Iranian targets, prompting retaliatory strikes from Tehran targeting Israel and US allies in the Gulf region, and leading to the temporary closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire was brokered on April 8 with the assistance of Pakistani mediation, although subsequent talks in Islamabad did not yield a permanent resolution. Following these developments, US President Donald Trump extended the truce indefinitely, providing a temporary respite from escalating conflict. However, the situation remains fragile, necessitating ongoing diplomatic and security discussions.
