ACCRA: Ghana's Judiciary has affirmed its readiness to swiftly address all election-related issues that arise in the courts before, during, and after the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, under the guidelines of the new Manual on Election Adjudication. According to Ghana News Agency, a statement from the Judicial Service of Ghana's Department of Communication detailed this commitment. During a dialogue session with a Group of Eminent Persons, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo urged the public to maintain full confidence in the Judiciary, emphasizing the institution's preparedness and independence. The dialogue, attended by members of the Elections Management Committee of the Judiciary, led by Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie, a Supreme Court Judge, and Justice Cyra Pamela C.A Koranteng, Judicial Secretary, reinforced assurances of efficient handling of election-related cases. The Group of Eminent Persons, co-chaired by Most Rev. Dr. Paul K. Boafo, engaged with the Chief Justice to assess the Judiciary 's readiness for the upcoming elections. The statement from the Judicial Service highlighted key actions since the formation of the Election Management Committee in the 2023/2024 Legal Year. Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie outlined the imminent launch of the fifth edition of the Manual on Election Adjudication, which will coincide with intensive training for Superior Court Judges, public sensitization efforts, and ongoing engagement with stakeholders. Justice Bonnie further indicated that the Elections Management Committee (EMC) has actively participated in stakeholder engagements aimed at enhancing election adjudication. These efforts include establishing timelines for parliamentary election disputes and conducting training sessions to bolster the capacity of Magistrate and High Court Judges in compliance with Regulation 21 (1) of Public Elections.
