Labourer Appears in Court for Theft of Air-Condition Units from Retired Lecturer

Accra: Kwabena Frimpong, a labourer, appeared before an Adenta Circuit Court for stealing three air-condition outdoor units valued at GHC12,000.

According to Ghana News Agency, Frimpong, who worked as a gardener for a retired lecturer in Amrahia, Accra, pleaded guilty to the charges. He explained to the court that he resorted to theft due to financial difficulties after his pregnant wife requested money. Frimpong admitted selling the stolen units for GHC1,000 each to a friend, Ebenezer, whose whereabouts he could not provide.

Presiding Judge Sarah Nyarkoa Nkansa convicted Frimpong based on his plea and remanded him into police custody. He is scheduled to reappear on May 26, 2025, for sentencing. Chief Inspector Eric Ransford Abban, who led the prosecution, informed the court that Frimpong had been employed by the complainant for five years. The theft occurred two months ago when Frimpong removed the air-condition units while working in the compound and subsequently fled.

Frimpong remained in hiding until his arrest on April 16, 2025, at a construction site near the Airport. He confessed to selling the items to Ebenezer, who resides in Dawhenya, but stated he could not assist the police in retrieving them as he did not know where his friend lived.
