Lions Club Donates Reflective Vests to Enhance Safety of Volta Police

Accra: The Lions Club International has donated 165 reflective vests to the Volta Regional Police Command's Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Ho to enhance the visibility and safety of officers on duty, especially during night operations. The donation was a collaborative effort by the Tema Supreme Lions Club and the Ho Sentinel Lions Club as part of the organization's commitment to community safety and social responsibility.

According to Ghana News Agency, Lion Allan Doegah, President of the Tema Supreme Lions Club, emphasized that the initiative was a gesture of goodwill aimed at supporting the Ghana Police Service in maintaining law and order. He described it as a way to give back to society and strengthen the partnership between the police and the communities they protect. Lion Rejoice Zagbede, President of the Ho Sentinel Lions Club, encouraged other civic organizations and individuals to emulate this gesture, highlighting the mutual need for support and protection between the police and the community.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Joseph Owusu Ansah, who received the items on behalf of the Regional Police Commander, expressed profound gratitude to the Lions Club for what he described as an unprecedented act of partnership. He noted that in his one year and nine months at the command, this was the first time such a presentation had been made and assured that the vests would be used strictly for their intended purpose. DCOP Ansah pointed out the resource constraints often faced by the police and emphasized that the vests would significantly improve road safety and officer protection.

He also called on other organizations, businesses, and civil society groups to take inspiration from the Lions Club and form partnerships with the police, emphasizing the need for public involvement in supporting the police service. Lion Wisdom Waiter, a Past Zone Chair of the Lions Club International, also urged corporate bodies and philanthropists to extend similar support to the Ghana Police Service, stressing that supporting the police contributes to safer communities.

Both the Police and the Lions Club assured continued collaboration to promote community safety, unity, and mutual respect. Meanwhile, as part of their Mental Health Awareness Week celebration coinciding with the donation, the group organized an initiative dubbed 'Compassion in Action: Nourishing the Mentally Challenged,' where they provided breakfast and lunch to individuals with mental health issues on the streets of the Municipality.
