### LPG Awareness Campaign Launched in Volta Region to Promote Cleaner Cooking Alternatives

Kpando: A week-long campaign aimed at promoting the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) over traditional cooking fuels has been launched in the Volta Region. Spearheaded by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) in collaboration with the Oil Sustainability Programme under the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy and Digicraft Advertising, the initiative seeks to educate the public on the health and environmental benefits of LPG. According to Ghana News Agency, the campaign targets key stakeholders including community leaders, market queens, and Municipal and District Chief Executives, as well as consumers, through various engagements such as market sessions, town hall meetings, and community durbars. Reverend Father Selom Mireku, Chairman of the Local Council of Churches, emphasized the severe health risks posed by the continued use of firewood and charcoal, urging a shift to LPG for cooking. Citing data from the World Health Organization, Reverend Mireku highlighted that smoke from traditional fuel s contributes to over four million deaths globally each year, with women and children being especially vulnerable to the resulting pollutants. During the campaign's launch, Reverend Mireku praised the NPA and its collaborators for advocating LPG as a safer and more sustainable cooking option, pledging to use his platform to further promote this transition. He called for collective action to combat indoor air pollution by reducing reliance on traditional fuels, an effort he believes can protect both public health and the environment. Mrs. Eunice Budu Nyarko, the Head of Consumer Services at the NPA, led the campaign's activities, advising consumers on essential safety precautions such as regular inspection of gas hoses and using only approved materials. Mr. Johnson Gbagbo Junior, Supervisor of Gas at the NPA, provided attendees with guidelines on LPG safety, while Mr. Geoffrey Badassu, MCE of Kpando, encouraged continued educational outreach in rural areas. In a related town hall meeting in Aflao, Ketu Sout h Health Officer, Mr. Edmund Adzakwadzo, reiterated the health risks associated with smoke exposure, particularly for women and children, and urged the public to support the NPA's campaign. The campaign underscores the environmental advantages of LPG, which burns cleanly and reduces deforestation and air pollution compared to firewood. The NPA and its partners hope that this initiative will inspire more Ghanaians to adopt cleaner cooking practices, thereby safeguarding their health and the environment.
