Tunis: Lebanese singer Majda El Roumi is set to make her grand return to Tunisia for the closing concert of the 60th Carthage International Festival, scheduled for August 19, which is already sold out. Having arrived on Saturday at Tunis-Carthage Airport, the socially conscious singer is marking her return to this ancient stage after an absence of nearly eight years. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, Majda El Roumi expressed her gratitude to Tunisia, which believed in her talent when she first started out in 1980. It was on the stage of the Ancient Theatre of Carthage where the singer first met the Tunisian public, performing a famous poem by the great poet Abou el Kacem Chebbi. Over the years, she has returned to Tunisia on numerous occasions, delivering messages of love, resistance, and peace. For this historic event, she has announced an exclusive programme featuring her greatest hits, along with three new songs that will be unveiled exclusively in Carthage. As an ambassador for peace, she has al so prepared a tribute to Tunisian heritage by performing works by the iconic composer Hedi Jouini and singer Saliha, reaffirming her strong bonds with the Tunisian public. Throughout her career, Majda El Roumi has distinguished herself through socially conscious artistic choices, using her voice to advocate for resistance and peace through the works of great Arab poets like Mahmoud Darwish, Souad Al-Sabah, and Nizar Kabbani. Her unique ties with Tunisia have been evident on political and humanitarian fronts, including a visit to the Bardo National Museum in March 2015 to express solidarity following a terrorist attack. In 2017, she was officially welcomed by former President late Beji Caid Essebsi to mark the 61st anniversary of Tunisia's Independence Day. In October 2010, she was awarded the insignia of Commander of the National Order of Cultural Merit, recognizing her efforts and historic artistic career.
