Accra: The man accused of firing indiscriminately during a fire outbreak at Madina Redco, while Ghana Fire Service personnel were addressing the situation on August 3, has been granted bail. Mustapha Iddrisu Danlad has been admitted to bail in the amount of GHC100,000, with three sureties required to reside within the court's jurisdiction. One of these sureties must justify the bail with a land title deed valued at no less than GHC50,000. Additionally, Danlad is required to report to the Madina Police every Wednesday. The prosecution has been instructed to file their disclosures by October 23, 2025, with the substantive case adjourned to October 24, 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, Danlad's bail was granted following the police's verification and confirmation of his fixed abode at Redco Flats in Accra. His actions led to six individuals being struck by pellets from his pump action gun. Danlad faces charges including discharge of firearms without authority, possession of firearms without authority, and three counts of causing harm. He has pleaded not guilty, claiming to be a Task Force Officer with EOCO.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Danku, revealed that the complainant is the Madina Divisional Police Command. On August 3, 2025, around 1300 hours, officers from the Madina Police Command responded to the fire outbreak at Redco Flats. While assisting the Fire Service personnel, a misunderstanding arose between Danlad and a group of people. Despite the situation being initially resolved, Danlad reportedly returned with a pump action gun and began firing indiscriminately without provocation, causing chaos as people fled the scene.
The prosecution reported that the gunfire resulted in six individuals sustaining injuries from the pellets, with victims being rushed to the hospital. Some were treated and discharged, while others were referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Following the incident, Danlad went into hiding but was eventually apprehended by police on September 12 at around 0500 hours. During investigations, Danlad admitted to the offence in his caution statement.
