Gomoa Brofoyedru: More than 1,000 residents of Gomoa Brofoyedru and surrounding areas, including school children and teachers, have benefited from a dental and health screening exercise organized by Marigold Foundation. The initiative saw collaboration with Healing and Hearts, Rotary Club of Accra Labone, Rotary Club of Dallas in Texas, and several other organizations.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marigold Foundation, noted in an interview that the foundation was established in 2011 and has been hosting annual dental and health screenings for both adults and school children. Mrs. Assan highlighted the general reluctance among Ghanaians to visit health facilities for dental checks and other health-related issues, attributing this to the prevalence of many preventable illnesses.
Mrs. Assan expressed concerns over the scarcity of dental clinics in most health facilities, which complicates regular dental health check-ups for many individuals. To address this, the foundation has made efforts to bring dental services directly to the community, alleviating the burden of travel and associated treatment costs.
She urged parents to ensure their children maintain good oral hygiene, particularly by brushing their teeth in the morning before school, to promote fresh breath and enhance their confidence. The foundation has previously conducted similar screenings in Agona Kwamang, Brofoyedru, and Senya Bereku in the Central region, witnessing substantial turnouts.
Mrs. Assan revealed plans to extend these free dental services to more communities within the year, aiming to make quality dental care accessible at no cost.
Nana Ama Amponsa, Queen Mother of Gomoa Brofoyedru, expressed her gratitude to Marigold Foundation for addressing dental health issues in the community. She encouraged the foundation and its partners to consider making the screenings a regular occurrence to benefit a wider populace.
Beneficiaries, including teachers, school children, and local chiefs, also conveyed their appreciation to the Marigold Foundation, urging for the continuation of such initiatives to improve overall dental health quality.
