Men and Women Urged to Undergo Regular Breast Cancer Screenings.

Tamale: Dr Abukari Bawah Abdulai, Director of University for Development Studies (UDS) Health Services, has advised both men and women to regularly visit health facilities for breast cancer screenings. Highlighting the prevalence of the disease, Dr Abdulai stated that breast cancer is the most common form of cancer globally, accounting for 18.7 percent of all cancer cases across both sexes and all age groups. According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Abdulai provided this advice during a two-day breast and cervical cancer awareness event, which included free screening exercises at UDS campuses in Tamale and Nyankpala. The event was organized by Sung Foundation in collaboration with Collective Action Against Poverty in Ghana (CAAP-Ghana) and supported by UDS as part of this year's breast cancer awareness campaign. Dr Abdulai underscored the importance of early diagnosis through regular screenings as a critical step towards ensuring full treatment of the disease. Dr John Terwase Kase, Medical Superintendent at the U DS Clinic on the Nyankpala Campus, also encouraged the public to routinely visit hospitals for check-ups regarding their breast health. Additionally, Hajia Fati Seidu, Executive Director of Sung Foundation, called for increased involvement of men in supporting breast cancer awareness campaigns in schools and institutions to help prevent cancer cases in the country.
