Methodist University Ghana Encourages New Students to Utilize Counselling Services for Personal Challenges

Accra: Reverend Professor Daniel Yao Bruce, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Methodist University Ghana (MUG), has emphasized the importance of the University's Counselling Unit for new students facing personal challenges. Speaking at the 25th Matriculation Ceremony for the 2024/2025 Academic Year, Prof Bruce highlighted that the Counselling Unit is a crucial resource for students needing guidance and support. According to Ghana News Agency, a total of 761 new students were enrolled at the ceremony, selected from 1,074 admits out of 1,119 applicants. The fresh student body includes 61 foreign students from nine different countries, contributing to the diversity of the university community. The breakdown of enrolled students across MUG's campuses includes 428 at the Dansoman Campus, 164 at the Tema Campus, and 169 at the Wenchi Campus. The matriculation ceremony marks the official induction of these students as junior members of the university, where Prof Bruce urged them to uphold Christian values and adhe re strictly to the university's rules and regulations. The Acting Vice-Chancellor also stressed the importance of maintaining a positive attitude towards academic and social activities and respecting the university's dress code and behavioral expectations. Prof Bruce's address also touched on broader educational goals, encouraging students to strive for excellence and make the most of their academic programs for personal and societal benefit. He highlighted the need for ethical behavior, avoidance of misconduct, and participation in religious activities organized by the university to foster holistic development. The ceremony also featured a speech from Miss Adzika Winnifred, a representative of the freshmen class, who expressed expectations for a nurturing academic environment free from harassment and conducive to learning and personal growth.
