ACCRA: The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) organized a Regional Youth Dialogue and Festival to promote peace ahead of Ghana's 2024 elections, urging the youth to play a pivotal role in maintaining national stability. Mr. Frederick Mawuli Agbenu, the Greater Accra Regional Director for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), emphasized the importance of peacebuilding and encouraged citizens to actively contribute to the country's security. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Agbenu highlighted the potential of young people to be ambassadors of social cohesion and stability within their communities. He underscored the necessity for individuals to strive for peace, regardless of governmental or organizational efforts. He pointed out that the youth possess attributes beneficial for peacebuilding, but these same characteristics could pose challenges to national cohesion if not properly harnessed. Sheikh Armiyaw, a Board Member of the National Peace Council, cautioned the youth against becomin g tools for political agendas, stressing the need to preserve Ghana's reputation for peace and hospitality amid increasing violence. Dr. Kojo Impraim, Executive Director of MFWA, echoed these sentiments, urging young people not to be exploited for political gain and to embody peace instead. Dr. Impraim also addressed a perceived decline in respect for elders among the youth, encouraging a return to traditional values. He announced MFWA's plans to collaborate with various radio and TV stations to train journalists on promoting peaceful discourse during the upcoming elections, aiming to counter hate speech and misinformation.
