Minister Urges Muslim Community to Pray for Peace in Conflict-Ridden Bawku

Bolgatanga: Mr Donatus Atanga Akamugri, the Upper East Regional Minister, has called on the Muslim community to constantly pray for the restoration of permanent peace in Bawku and its environs. "Let us continuously pray for peace in Bawku and other conflict endemic areas and support government's efforts in this regard as we strive to govern and make life better for us all," he stated, emphasizing the crucial role of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Regional Minister made this appeal during the commemoration of this year's Eid ul-Fitr in Bolgatanga. He highlighted the adverse impacts of the Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has resulted in loss of lives and destruction of properties, causing significant setbacks to development and socioeconomic progression in the area.

Mr Akamugri stressed that achieving permanent peace in Bawku was of utmost importance to President John Dramani Mahama and the Upper East Regional Security Council. He called for support from all stakeholders to realize this goal, noting that the government will continue to back the efforts of the Otumfuo-led mediation team in resolving the conflict peacefully.

The Regional Minister also mentioned the government's commitment to the interests of the Muslim community, citing budgetary allocations for scholarships for Muslim students. He urged Muslims to uphold the unity and virtues demonstrated during Ramadan to ensure peaceful coexistence.

Maulvi Abass Bin Suleman, the Upper East Regional Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslims, advised Muslims to exhibit the virtues of Ramadan in their daily interactions. He emphasized that portraying the teachings and spiritual nourishment experienced during the fasting period would help build a harmonious society and promote growth and peace.
