Accra: A total of 2091 persons and entities have been registered under the Feed Ghana Program (FGP) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region. This registration includes a diverse group of 1887 farmers, 154 cooperatives, 42 poultry farmer-based organizations (FBOs), and eight institutional farms.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Daniel Peprah, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, stated that the registration exercise was completed within the two-month stipulated period. He explained that the exercise saw participation from livestock, cereal, foodstuff, and other interested farmers.
Agricultural Extension Agents (AEAs), Veterinary, and other officers conducted the registration by assessing community names, types, and sizes of farms. During this process, both existing and new entities were captured to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Mr. Peprah highlighted the benefits expected from the initiative, including the provision of technical advice, financial support, trade facilitation, and the establishment of Farmers' Service Centres (FSCs) to improve access to agro-inputs and services. These benefits aim to be achieved through effective mechanization, extension and veterinary services, and market linkages.
He urged cooperation and support from farmers and all stakeholders to help realize the program's objectives. The Feed Ghana Programme is a government initiative designed to increase productivity, accelerate the transformation of Ghana's agricultural sector, ensure food security, create sustainable employment, and enhance economic growth.
