Mothers Encouraged to Combat Youth Drug Abuse Through Closer Engagement

Agona Swedru: Mrs Winifred Arthur, an Executive Member of the Women's Movement of the Promise Word Church International, has reiterated calls on mothers to join the national crusade against the abuse of hard drugs among the youth.

According to Ghana News Agency, mothers by virtue of their closer relationship with their children, have a unique opportunity to counsel their children to stay away from drugs.

She shared these insights in an interview with Ghana News Agency, coinciding with the Mother's Day celebration at the Church in Agona Swedru, Central Region. Mrs Arthur emphasized the influence mothers have in guiding their children to become responsible leaders, urging them to nurture their wards with care.

Mrs Arthur also advised mothers to continue showing love and compassion, prioritize their children's education, and raise them with Christian values. In addition, Mrs Comfort Dukpor, the wife of the General Secretary of the church, highlighted the importance of women prioritizing family care and marriage issues to prevent divorces. She emphasized the role of the Women's Movement in educating women on their wellbeing and socio-economic advancement.

Mrs Dukpor encouraged mothers to avoid behaviors that might negatively impact their children's upbringing and to set good examples for them. Mr Daniel Adu, National Executive Welfare Chairman of the Church, noted that the week-long program by the Women's Movement had benefited the women at the Swedru branch in understanding their welfare and the church's development.

Reverend Solomon Dukpor, General Secretary of the Church, remarked on the international celebration of mothers every second week of May, recognizing their unconditional love and patience. He appealed to children to appreciate their mothers' sacrifices, suggesting that such appreciation could attract blessings.
