Muslims Encouraged to Embrace Peaceful Practices Ahead of Ghana’s Elections

KUMASI: Muslims in Ghana have been called upon to embody the teachings of Prophet Mohammed by fostering peace and understanding across religious, tribal, and political divides. This appeal was made by Alhaji Abdul Razak Abubakar Sana, Director of the AI-Qibla Charity Foundation, during a Peace durbar organized to sensitize the Muslim community on maintaining peace, particularly in the lead-up to the nation's December general elections. According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Sana urged Muslims to integrate the true essence of Islam into their daily lives, advocating for peace and cautioning against actions that might threaten the country's stability. The Peace durbar, held under the theme "Peaceful Election; the Muslim Factor," aimed to enhance public awareness about preventing election-related violence and ensuring peaceful and credible elections in 2024. The event also focused on educating attendees about election-related laws, such as the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act, 2019 (Act 999), to protect com munities from election-related violence. Alhaji Sana emphasized the importance of understanding election rules and laws to ensure Muslims cast their votes peacefully. Mr. Francis Osei Nsiah, Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of tolerance, love for neighbors, transparency, and accountability in building trust and eliminating stereotypes during electoral processes. He reassured attendees of the EC's dedication to conducting credible elections.
