Tunis: The National Council of Regions and Districts on Friday evening approved the entire 2026-2030 Development Plan, with 56 votes for, 6 against, and 5 abstentions. The plan sets forth development orientations and programs for the upcoming period, focusing on economic and social priorities at both national and regional levels. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the Assembly of the People's Representatives had also approved the plan during a plenary session held on July 10, with 64 votes for, 24 against, and 15 abstentions. The plan aims for an economic growth rate of about 4.2%, reducing the budget deficit to approximately 3%, and controlling the debt level at around 80% of the GDP by 2030. The plan targets reducing the poverty rate to below 15% and elevating the Human Development Index to the level of countries with very high human development. In the energy sector, it intends to increase the share of renewable energy to 35% by 2030 and improve energy efficiency by reducing national primary energ y consumption by 30%, along with network renewal and increased wastewater reuse. The development plan is structured around major orientations, including modernizing the economic fabric, upgrading infrastructure, achieving energy, water, and food security, and preserving a healthy environment. It also emphasizes balanced regional development, overhauling the institutional framework, ensuring efficient public services, and guaranteeing fair and inclusive social development. Additionally, the plan includes establishing an effective system for public affairs management that supports economic and social development while enhancing the rights of citizens and economic actors.
