NCCE Calls on Women to Play Active Role in Combating Corruption

Sunyani: Ms. Margaret Abrafi Appiah, the Sunyani West Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has urged women to contribute to the nationwide fight against corruption. She emphasized the detrimental impact of corruption on economic development and encouraged women to report corruption-related offenses to relevant agencies such as the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Police.

According to Ghana News Agency, Ms. Appiah made these remarks during a civic engagement forum organized by the NCCE for women groups in the Nsoatre Municipality. The forum aimed to empower women to play an active role in combating corruption and promoting the rule of law. It was a collaborative effort by the NCCE, the Ministry of Finance, and supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft fr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the European Union (EU).

The forum saw participation from traders, hairdressers, seamstresses, apprentices, pensioners, queen mothers, and other women leaders, along with representatives from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) and CHRAJ. Ms. Appiah also highlighted the importance of reporting domestic violence and human rights abuses to foster a culture of accountability and transparency.

Mr. Vincent Missah Akwei from the Bono Regional Office of the NCCE commended women for their societal contributions but expressed concern about the moral decay exacerbating the fight against corruption. Chief Inspector Lydia Ameyaw from DOVVSU urged women to report domestic violence cases.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting the rule of law and fighting corruption, recognizing it as a significant barrier to socioeconomic development.
