PAGA: The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) convened its second Inter-party Dialogue Committee meeting in Paga, with key figures urging political parties to prioritize peace and stability in the forthcoming 2024 elections. Pe Ayikodie Zagwio Atoge IV, the Paramount chief of the Katiu traditional area and chairman of the Inter-party Dialogue Committee in the Kassena-Nankana West District, called for responsible conduct from all political actors to uphold Ghana's democratic gains. According to Ghana News Agency, Pe Ayikodie highlighted the importance of maintaining peace during election campaigns and after the electoral process. He reminded attendees of Ghana's solid democratic credentials, achieved through collective efforts of political actors, and stressed the need for parties to ensure their supporters refrain from actions that could disrupt the district's tranquility. James Abdulai Ayaala, the Upper East Regional Director of the NCCE, noted Ghana's successful history in conducting eight presi dential and parliamentary elections since the fourth Republic began. He emphasized the nation's commitment to democracy as the best governance system and urged political parties to campaign with decorum to preserve the peace that took years to establish. ASP Ziaullah Khalil Ibrahim, the district police commander of Kassena/Nankana West, addressed the importance of monitoring and reporting threats of violence extremism. He called for collaboration between community leaders and security agencies to secure borders and prevent terrorist infiltration. He warned that the country's unemployment could make the youth susceptible to extremist recruitment and highlighted the critical nature of the 2024 Election for Ghanaians. Robert Dampare, the Kassena/Nankana West District Director of the NCCE, announced a series of activities planned to promote peace during the election period. These initiatives include community forums, meetings with various groups, and radio programs focused on peaceful elections.
