NGO Donates 800 Exercise Books to Orphans in Upper East Region Schools.

Nabdam: The Widows and Orphans Movement (WOM), backed by ActionAid Ghana, has generously donated 800 exercise books and pens to orphaned students across four schools within the Nabdam and Talensi Districts of the Upper East Region. This initiative aims to support 200 orphaned pupils from primary and Junior High Schools (JHS) in Dapoore and Kulpeliga in the Talensi District, as well as Kotintabig and Nyogbare in the Nabdam District, with each student receiving four exercise books and a pen. According to Ghana News Agency, the provision of these educational materials is intended to enhance the learning experiences of the underprivileged students while fostering a sense of community and hope among them. Ms. Nancy Awinbisa Amiziah, Project Officer at WOM, emphasized the organization's commitment to education as a critical thematic area. WOM strives to provide logistical support to orphaned children, aiding them in their pursuit of education and training drop-out orphans in various trades. The organization's eff orts aim to uplift the spirits and morale of these students, encouraging them to study diligently and pursue their dreams. Master Benjamin Alibo, a beneficiary at Dapoore Junior School, expressed gratitude for the books, noting that they would allow him to keep each subject separate, improving his access to notes. Miss Joyce Nyaaba, a pupil at Kulpeliga Primary, shared her excitement about the donation, highlighting her plans to use the books separately for class exercises and note-taking. Mr. Joseph Anyoka, Headmaster of Kulpeliga JHS, recognized the significance of the gesture, noting that it was the first of its kind and had positively influenced both students and parents, emphasizing the importance of education. Madam Fatima Luqman, Headmistress of Dapoore JHS, pointed out the challenges faced by the school, including a shortage of learning materials and furniture. She expressed hope that the donation would enhance academic activities and called upon the government and other organizations to provide fur ther support, particularly in addressing the furniture shortage, as some students currently sit on cement blocks.
