ACCRA: Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo has addressed a recent altercation between team members, emphasizing that such incidents can contribute to the team's development. The incident occurred after Ghana's 2-0 defeat to Sudan in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, where attacker Jordan Ayew and goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi were involved in an on-field altercation that reportedly extended into the locker room. According to Ghana News Agency, the scuffle between Ayew and Ati-Zigi required intervention from teammates to diffuse tensions. Otto Addo, who has faced criticism for Ghana's underwhelming performance in the qualifiers, commented that these conflicts can be constructive, providing players with a platform to express their emotions openly. Addo stated, "And sometimes, to be honest, teams need this to grow. Sometimes I like it better than talking behind somebody's back, you know, to be direct and straight." He believes that voicing concerns openly can lead to improvements within the team. In additio n to addressing the altercation, Addo responded to critiques concerning the team's inconsistency over recent years. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the team, mentioning a "small downfall" but remained optimistic about Ghana's prospects. Addo said, "I think it's a long journey... Now I'm responsible maybe for a big, big downfall, for not qualifying. But, like I said, mathematically, we still have a chance; we will do everything." Addo reiterated his commitment to working hard for the youth and the nation, aiming to restore Ghana to its former glory in football. He emphasized the importance of mental preparation and resilience, vowing that the team would come back stronger.
