Accra: Abraham Korbla Klutsey, a noted author and peace advocate, has called upon the youth to become agents of peace and avoid actions that could fuel conflicts. Addressing attendees at the launch of his book, "Peacebuilding at the Edge of Death," in Accra, Mr. Klutsey emphasized the negative impact of conflicts on young people and urged them to resist being manipulated to incite chaos within their communities. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Klutsey's book details his courageous journey from 2013 to 2015, living among the conflict-stricken communities of Alavanyo and Nkonya. During this self-funded mission, he resigned from his job to immerse himself in the turmoil, focusing on community engagement, trauma counseling, and disbanding armed groups. His efforts yielded significant strides in promoting lasting peace. The book highlights the critical role of grassroots initiatives and youth involvement in conflict resolution and sustainable peacebuilding. Mr. Klutsey, who also serves as the Executive Direc tor of Youth for Peace and Security Africa and Citizens' Network for Peace and Security in Africa, encouraged peace mediators to document their experiences to guide others in similar roles. He shared the financial challenges he faced during the project, revealing that he had to sell his personal laptop and rely on friends for support. Despite these hurdles, he expressed gratitude to those who assisted him, noting the difficulty in securing government funding due to his young age, though he received support in other forms. His organization continues its work in Ghana and other African countries, aiming to build resilience against conflict, violence, and extremism. He mentioned the development of an app designed to gather real-time data on conflict zones, aiding mediators in accessing information before visiting these areas. Professor Benedicta Fosu-Mensah, representing Mr. John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, praised the book's timing with the upcoming 2024 General Election. S he emphasized the vital link between peace and development, noting that conflict hinders progress and disproportionately affects the innocent and vulnerable. Hajia Hamidatu Ibrahim Nussah, a leading member of the Convention People's Party, urged politicians to promote peaceful messages during their campaigns and encouraged the youth to focus on productive endeavors that enhance their futures. The event was attended by representatives from the National Peace Council, Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), and other civil society groups, who extended congratulations to Mr. Klutsey and advocated for peaceful elections.
