Police Intensify Search for Petroleum Broker Over Alleged Fraud

Accra: The Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service has intensified its search for Mr. Jeremiah Darlington Quainoo, a 43-year-old petroleum product broker. He is wanted for allegedly defrauding a petroleum company by false pretenses, amounting to GHS 2,150,000.

According to Ghana News Agency, a warrant publication issued by the District Court at Kotobabi states that Mr. Jeremiah Darlington Quainoo is wanted for defrauding by false pretenses, with a serial code (SIU/CID HQTRS). Despite preliminary actions, including two invitations extended to him, Mr. Quainoo has failed to respond and has since gone into hiding.

Police CID sources indicate that Mr. Quainoo fraudulently obtained petroleum products from a leading petroleum company and has not honored the payment. He has also declined law enforcement invitations despite several efforts. The matter was initially referred to the investigation division under the supervision of Police Commander Chief Superintendent Seth Sewornu.

An accomplice, identified only as Mr. Nii, was arrested in connection with the case. Following his arrest, Mr. Quainoo issued a cheque for GHS 650,000, after which the accomplice was granted bail. However, investigations revealed that the cheque was dishonored upon presentation, bringing the total number of dishonored cheques issued by Mr. Quainoo in this matter to five.

Police documents reveal that the persistent disregard for law enforcement invitations, coupled with the continued failure to settle the outstanding amount of GHS 2,150,000, suggests a deliberate attempt to defraud the company. The Police CID is appealing to the public for information on Mr. Quainoo's whereabouts and can be contacted at +233 596053266 or +233 208599169.
